User Research: Pain Points

Below are the pain points that were found during a user research:-

- "I often can find information about volunteering events on social media. Sometimes, I feel skeptical about the information given from these social media. I would feel better if there's an app that could provide these information legitimately. It's for my own protection."

- "I spend most of my time thinking about work. My days could get heavily loaded with tasks at work. I took the initiative to write down my to-do list on my phone but sometimes I just forget about it."

- "I think many people don't get involved in volunteering work because it is a lot of work. Maybe by providing a way for volunteers to get rewarded can attract more people to join volunteering work."

User Research: Personas

We have included two personas from the user research study. The two personas are as follows:-

Tom

“At work, my client is my top priority. When in meeting with them, I often in a zone with them and would often forget the things I should do.”

GOALS

  • To regularly use an app that helps in tracking nearby volunteering events.

  • To make sure he is alert about upcoming volunteering events.

FRUSTRATIONS

  • Only uses social media platforms to search for volunteer events.

  • As someone who often in meeting with clients, he often forget his to-do list.

Therapist

Tom is a therapist who often meet new people and listen to his clients problems. Tom finds volunteering good and healthy for his mental health. He always finds volunteering events on social media. He wishes there is a mobile app that could help him figure out volunteering events nearby and also give him alert on upcoming that he has agreed to join as he is a busy man.

There were 5 potential users who were interested in the idea of the product.  We asked them to participate in our interview to understand ways to improve the user experience for this app.

The following image is our findings from the usability study. Commonly, there were three findings found from the unmoderated usability study.

Information Architecture

Before usability study

Before usability study

While creating the this application, we realized that many people love the idea of volunteering but may find it hard to find a legit related organization. We built this application in hope it conveniences and increases the spirit of volunteering in others, for the sake of their physical and mental health.

Improved Prototypes

After usability study

The extra information of the user were added in the profile page section in web app version but not for mobile app version. The related missing information of the user is now available on mobile app version as well.

After usability study

To ease the users to find more information regarding donate, we added FAQ section in the Donate page.

Other than the Donate page, they can also find information of it on FAQ page.

In this project, we will do different versions of the app design according to the device used. Let's have a look on our digital wireframe. The images below represent the digital wireframe for mobile and desktop version respectively.

Lo-fi Mobile.png

After creating the low-fidelity prototype was a success, we proceeded with creating the high-fidelity prototype for this project to give a vibrant and more alive feel to the app. You can see the high-fidelity prototypes for both mobile and desktop version in images below.
