About

JPJ Portal is Malaysia's Official Portal of Road Transport Department. It is a government department under the Malaysian Ministry of Transport.

JPJ has more than 90 branches and offices nationwide, the function of JPJ branches is to examine and issue the Malaysian driving license, road tax, vehicle registration and relevant documents for its users.

For this project, I will revamp the visual appearance of the JPJ Portal Website to enhance user experience and convenience.

User Research: Pain Points

Below are the pain points that were found during a user research:-

- "I often have a hard time to search for the list of driving institutes and workshops on the website. It is located somewhere in the website that I did not expect to find."

- "I prefer the mobile app of JPJ and not so much on the website version. I find it unpleasant to read the website content and the design layout is too cluttered with a lot of information they have."

- “I wish the website layout is cleaner so that I can find information that I need quickly and less confusion when browsing the website.”

User Research: Personas

We have included two personas from the user research study. The two personas are as follows:-

35 years old

Ipoh, Perak

Business owner

“I regularly use the portal website to apply for tender projects. I wish the website will be cleaner and simpler.”

GOALS

  • Easy login into the website.

  • To easily applies for tender projects.

FRUSTRATIONS

  • The look of the website is not user-friendly.

  • The portal website is cluttered with other information.

Ryan is a business owner who accepts tender projects from the government. He regularly uses the portal website to apply for tenders. He finds the portal website messy and full of unnecessary features included. He wishes the website has a  simpler and cleaner look.

Information Architecture

User Journey Map

After figuring out a way to make the JPJ Website Portal to have a cleaner and more organized look, we gathered and created our thoughts into digital wireframe. We added connections between screens and created a low-fidelity prototype. Image on the left shows the low-fidelity prototype and image on the right shows the high-fidelity prototype.

Sketches and Prototypes

This is what our early sketches looked like. The images show the wireframes that demonstrate five different versions of the same main page screen.

Key Takeaway

By redesigning the JPJ Portal web app, I realized that creating a visually appealing with good architectural design is important to create a good user experience. Incorporating a simple functionality in the app by eliminating user pain points can increase the number of end-users.
